Okay so since DC has royally fucked up how old the Batfamily members are over the years, and Rebirth seems to have only made things worse in this department, I felt I should share an age scale I worked out that makes sense.This is gonna get real comic booky real fast so enter with caution.

Bruce: Bruce is 43. He’s a dad okay? He raised Dick for like 10 years, and he has 5 kids. Stop making him fucking 30. He started his Batman learning quest at age 12, studied around the world for 10 years and returned to Gotham at 22. He spent a year as Batman solo, then met Dick. At around 38, he’s getting slow from old injuries and age and has his back broken by Bane. A quick dip in the Lazarus Pits later and we have a fixed back, some lovely white temples, and a much physically younger Bruce, allowing him to continue as Batman for longer than he could otherwise.

Dick: Dick is 28. He was taken in at 8, and became Robin the end of that year. He was Robin for 10 years, then fought with Bruce and ran off to be Nightwing at 18. He has worked for 10 years solo. 

Barbara: Babs is 35. She became Batgirl at around 22 or 23. She worked with Dick for a couple years, then remained in Gotham when he left. She was paralyzed during Jason’s run as Robin. Altogether, about 5-6 years as Batgirl. She has been Oracle since then.

Jason: Jaybird is 21. He can finally (legally) drink. He became Robin at age 10, was Robin for 5 years, died at 15, came back, trained for a few years and returned to Gotham at 19. He has been Red Hood for 2 years.

Tim: Tim is the one sticking point here. See, in order for Timmy to be a highschooler he has to be like 17 or 18 max. And that means when Dick was 8 and he supposedly saw the famous triple somersault, Tim is….ahem… -2. Sooooo….we have to age him up or change the backstory, otherwise the timeline gets all fucked up. And this is the only timeline that works, I’ve thought on this extensively. So because I refuse to age my precious little Timmy up, instead of seeing the fateful somersault at the circus, he sees it somewhere else. Like say…a gymnastics competition where the minor celebrity Dick Grayson, son of local eccentric Billionaire Bruce Wayne,  is competing. Tim is a little stalker, so of course he recognizes it from old Robin footage he has on a tape somewhere, and bada bing bada boom, we’re in business again. I actually like these ages better though, because Dick will have been the Robin of his childhood, but JASON is the Robin he will have remembered and admired more. Which just adds to their lovely angst fest. He becomes Robin at age 12, spends four or five years as Robin, then is booted out by Damian. He becomes Red Robin, and has now been him for about a year. 

Cass: Cass is 19. Ish. She was a street kid for years, so we can be a bit loose with the ages. She was about 14-15 when she became Batgirl. So during Tim’s run as Robin. She Batgirled around for a couple years, quit, and became Black Bat. This timeline is less finicky because Cass doesn’t have as many predecessors and successors. 

Steph: Steph is 17. This one is easy, since she’s Tim’s age, and we have a set age for Tim. She was Spoiler at around 13, only a year into Timmy’s run. She’s that for a while, briefly takes over as Robin when Tim is 15, dies (but not really), then returns and takes up the mantle of Batgirl. Personally, I wish Steph was STILL Batgirl since I want Babs to be Oracle, but if she Steph HAS to be Spoiler again then her run as Batgirl was about 1-2 years max. 

Damian: Damian is 11, and sO HELP ME GOD DC IF YOU MAKE HIM ANY OLDER!!!!! sorry. Damian comes into Bruce’s life at ten, steals the mantle of Robin, and has been him for about a year now. Mostly with Dick as Batman, which is yet another reason he and Bruce work less than amicably together. Not that they really need more.

And that’s my ages for the Batfam. I think it makes more sense this way, but that’s just me.
